Double Joy for the East in annual battles

The Standing Stones was the venue yesterday for the annual East versus West fixtures. A 9 aside 'A' match was played as well as a 'B' game which had 7 players in each team. In each game there were 3 sessions of singles played, each match the best of 3. This was the second year in which the B game had been played while the 'A' game was reintroduced to the Orkney Pool Calendar in 2009.

Since the fixture started up again the West have been dominant, winning the tie on 9 consecutive occasions. Yesterday however, both East sides proved too strong for their West Mainland rivals as the East 'A' team ran out 16-11 winners while the 'B' side prevailed by 13 games to 8.

All in all it was good to see both games played out in a friendly yet competitive manner. The games are sure to be good warm ups for the players with so many of those involved representing Orkney to compete in the Inter County in 2 weeks time.

Thanks go to all players who competed and to the Standing Stones for hosting the fixtures
