Congratulations to Neil Cormack who won the Orkney Masters over the weekend defeating Shaun Spence in the final. This was Neil’s third final in 3 years and after losing out on the last two occasions by the odd frame this year he secured the win and his 5th Masters title overall to draw level with Keith Keldie for most wins in this tournament.
A large field of 73 players played in this year’s tournament over 6 weeks from the preliminary round to the group stages and on to the knockout stages. The semi-final line-ups saw four of the Stones team battling it out for a place in the final with Shaun beating Darren Tait 7-4 and Neil progressing via the same score line against Erlend Grieve.
The final saw Neil race in to a 4-0 lead only for Shaun to reply with 4 frames of his own to level up the match. Back to Neil’s turn again to run off 3 frames in a row and take him one frame away from the win. A spirited fightback from Shaun gave him the next two frames to take the score to 7-6 in Neil’s favour but Neil made no mistake as he secured the win in the next frame making the final score 8 frames to 6 and avoiding a decider.
Thanks to all who played in the tournament
