The Orkney pool teams have returned from their annual trip to the IBA Pool Championship's. Success was had for the men's A team as they retained the team trophy with yet another tough final victory over The Isle of Man 11-6. Keith Keldie also retained his singles trophy with victory over team mate Alan Stevenson in the final to become the first man to win the singles title twice. Good performances in the singles from Shaun Spence and Darren Tait also ensured there were 4 of the Orkney men in the last 4
In the ladies team event Orkney played excellently to get to the final, beating Shetland 8-7 in the semi. However the Isle of Man Ladies 'A' team proved to strong in the final as they went on to defeat the Orkney Ladies 8-4. Amanda Cutt from Shetland won the ladies singles with a tight 6-5 win over Isle of Man's Tanya Rhodes in the final. Maureen Herdman and Laura Harcus both played well to make it to the quarter final stages.
There was also a mixed doubles competition played for the first time. Each team had to have a player from 2 different islands and it was Erlend Grieve (Orkney) and Nikki Young (Isle of Man) who were the victors. Defeating Robert Gatt (Orkney) and Ali Cannon (Isle of Man) in the final.
As always the event was a great success and we all look forward to the next one. Big thanks to Karl Cross, Rachael Sutherland, David Duncan and to Daz and all the staff at CJ's.
