The 2019 Inter-County Pool matches against Shetland take place next weekend (29th and 30th March) at the Standing Stones Hotel. There are 5 team matches to play this year spread across Friday and Saturday as well as the Inter-County Singles (also on the Friday) and Open Flyer competitions (open to absolutely anyone, don’t have to be a county player to play in these) on the Sunday so an extremely busy weekend of pool is expected. As well as the Men’s and Women’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ matches there is the inaugural and highly anticipated ‘Development Match’ for players Under 30 years old. This match has been added to the schedule due to the large number of younger players currently playing in Orkney and Shetland, to encourage their development and give them a taste of competing on the big stage.
As always this will be the biggest weekend on the Pool calendar and every match will be keenly contested. Trophies were shared 2-apiece last year with Orkney currently holding the women’s A and men’s B trophies while Shetland hold the men’s A and women’s B, Shetland’s Brian Thompson is the defending singles champion.
Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to come along and cheer on the teams both days!
